A taxi driver in Gloucester was the victim of a racially aggravated assault last night, Monday, May 19. Around 9:35 pm near Wall’s Roundabout on Barnwood Road, the driver was attacked by a passenger during a journey in a black Skoda Fabia.
The incident began when the passenger started arguing with the driver before physically assaulting him by grabbing his neck and punching him. Despite the attack, the driver managed to safely pull over and attracted the attention of a passing motorist for assistance.
Witnesses reported hearing the taxi’s horn sounding repeatedly as the vehicle came to a stop just metres from the traffic lights. Following the incident, police arrested a 62-year-old Gloucester man on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault and non-fatal strangulation. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
