Tatum Keen’s Rapid Rise Leading to Commonwealth Games Debut

Tatum Keen, a judoka from Bitton, has been on an impressive upward trajectory, earning her place in Team England’s judo squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scheduled from 23 July to 2 August.

At 24 years old, this will mark Keen’s debut at a multi-sport event. She has enjoyed a stellar year, highlighted by two silver medals at major competitions: the 2025 Prague European Open and this year’s Tbilisi Grand Slam. Competing in the 52kg category, Keen is focused on building momentum and achieving a long-held personal goal at the Games.

“I’m proud of myself because I set it as a goal, and I achieved it,” Keen said. “Seeing it in writing made it feel real. I knew I had qualified with my results this year, but when I saw it confirmed, it felt truly rewarding.”

Keen credits joining the National Centre late last year and committing to full-time training for her recent success. “Being a full-time athlete has definitely helped me get some of the results I’ve had this year,” she explained.

Trained initially at Bradley Stoke Judo Club in Bristol, Keen draws inspiration from watching the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and former training partner Lele Nairne compete. “Watching the judo and the crowd at the last Games made me really want to aim for the next one,” she said.

Looking ahead, Keen views the Commonwealth Games as a stepping stone toward the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The event also offers a chance to compete in front of family, friends, and supporters from Bradley Stoke, adding a special dimension to her debut.

“I’m really excited that my family and friends will be there, and so many people from my club will come along to support me. That support means a lot,” she added.

With her strong performances this year and growing experience on the international stage, Tatum Keen is primed to make a significant impact at the Commonwealth Games and continue her journey toward Olympic competition.
