Tamzin Outhwaite Opens Up About Love and Family Life After Split from Tom Child

Former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite has candidly talked about her ongoing bond with ex-partner Tom Child, revealing that despite their split last summer after six years together, they remain close. At 54, Tamzin is in a unique situation as Tom is twenty years younger, yet their relationship has transformed into a supportive friendship that includes her two children, Flo and Marnie.

Appearing on the Parenting Hell podcast with Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe, Tamzin explained that Tom still visits frequently and is considered a welcome presence in their household. She laughed about him often helping himself to leftover food and described the home as an “open house,” filled with laughter, guests, and warmth. This openness extends to her children’s former nanny and even her father, who lives in a separate part of the house.

Tamzin expressed that her home reflects the open, lively environment she grew up in and is now a space where anyone entering must “lift the vibes even more.” She described their relationship as one where Tom is not just an ex but a “mate,” underlining their matured dynamic.

Last month, Tamzin reiterated on Hello! Magazine’s Second Act podcast that Tom is one of her “best friends” whom she deeply adores. She embraced being single and said she values her independence, preferring to be alone rather than sharing a bed. However, she left room for future romance, clarifying that any future partner would not necessarily live with her.

Tom Child was Tamzin’s first significant relationship following her divorce from Lucifer actor Tom Ellis in 2014. Their separation came after eight years together, partly due to challenges in their marriage. Since then, Tom has remarried, starting a family with actress Meaghan Oppenheimer.

In a heartfelt revelation during the podcast, Tamzin shared that her eldest child, Flo, has come out as transgender, now identifying as a son. She spoke about the evolution of her understanding and acceptance, describing their home as a joyful and loving space. “I did have two daughters, and now I have a son and a daughter,” she said, emphasizing the happiness and jokes that fill their household.

Discussing her initial reaction to Flo’s transition, Tamzin admitted her first thought was, “That’s ludicrous,” but quickly worked through those feelings to support her child wholeheartedly. She concluded by expressing immense pride in their happy, united family.
