Summer Evenings Shine with ‘Golden Hour’ Events at Hidcote Garden

This summer, Hidcote Garden, one of the National Trust’s most treasured Grade I-listed gardens in Gloucestershire, is set to dazzle visitors once again with its much-anticipated ‘Golden Hour’ twilight events. Running on three select evenings between May and July, these special late openings invite guests to explore the garden’s stunning rooms bathed in the warm hues of the setting sun.

Scheduled for Thursday, May 29, Saturday, June 21, and Saturday, July 19, from 6pm to 9pm, each event promises a unique and immersive experience enhanced by street food vendors, live music, and a variety of activities suited for all ages. Following the success of last year’s inaugural series, the 2024 ‘Golden Hour’ events are designed to allow visitors to enjoy Hidcote’s internationally renowned plant collections in a relaxed and atmospheric setting.

The garden, originally designed by Major Lawrence Johnston and lovingly cared for by the National Trust since 1948, offers a rich tapestry of horticultural wonders from across the globe. On the opening night, May 29, visitors can partake in expert-led garden tours, family games such as croquet and tennis, face painting, and a ‘Feathered Friends’ trail tailored for younger explorers.

June 21’s event celebrates the Summer Solstice with serene classical music performances, a poetry trail, tai chi sessions for wellbeing, and a special embroidery exhibition. Guests are welcome to unwind on the Great Lawn with options for boules, painting, or a peaceful evening read as daylight fades.

Closing the series on July 19, the final event kicks off the school summer holidays with a lively family-friendly atmosphere, featuring flamingo-themed games, circus skills workshops, creative crafts, and an array of food trucks to satisfy every palate.

Rose Futers, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager at Hidcote, shares her enthusiasm: “We’re delighted to welcome visitors back to Hidcote’s Golden Hour. These enchanting evenings offer a magical way to experience the garden’s beauty illuminated by soft golden light, alongside a diverse program of activities that everyone can enjoy.”

Tickets are priced at £22 for adults, £11 for children, and £55 for families (up to two adults and three children). While National Trust membership is not required to attend, advance booking is essential.
