Stroud District Launches New Initiative to Combat Anti-Social Behaviour This Summer

Stroud District Council is taking decisive action against anti-social behaviour (ASB) by introducing a new reporting platform and increasing community patrols this summer. This proactive strategy aims to reduce incidents of vandalism, noise disturbances, and other disruptive activities across the Stroud area.

At the heart of the initiative is a user-friendly digital tool that allows residents to report issues directly to the council. These reports enable the council to deploy Community Officers more effectively, focusing patrols on hotspots identified through resident feedback and police data. This approach is part of the council’s “Report It To Sort It” campaign, dedicated to improving safety and quality of life in local neighbourhoods.

Councillor Martin Brown, Chair of the Community Services and Licensing Committee, emphasized the impact of the new platform: “Our online tool is a game-changer. It empowers residents to share what’s happening in their communities, which means we can respond faster and smarter. The more information we receive, the better we can protect and support our communities.”

Complementing the digital approach, Community Officers will conduct evening patrols in areas where ASB reports are highest, providing a visible presence to deter anti-social activities and reassure both residents and local businesses.

Ange Gillingham, Head of Communities at Stroud District Council, highlighted the importance of community involvement: “By using real-time data from residents, we can prioritize our patrols where they will have the most impact. This strategy fosters a more proactive, visible, and responsive approach to ASB.”

In addition to enforcement efforts, the council is collaborating with local businesses and youth organizations to address underlying causes of anti-social behaviour. A series of summer programs and activities targeted at young people will offer positive alternatives to disruptive behaviour.

Residents are encouraged to report concerns through the council’s digital platform at www.stroud.gov.uk/report-it. Each report is crucial in helping build safer, stronger, and more resilient communities throughout Stroud District.
