Dramatic storm clouds have been observed over Gloucestershire amid a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued by the Met Office. One local resident described the clouds over her home as resembling a “huge tornado.”
The yellow weather warning remains in effect across much of the UK until 23:59 tonight (Sunday), with forecasts predicting heavy showers and thunderstorms that could disrupt transport, infrastructure, and outdoor activities.
Gloucester has experienced persistent rain over the past several days. On Thursday, 27 August, the Severe Weather Updates Facebook page posted about possible tornado sightings near Gloucester, asking residents if anyone had witnessed the phenomenon.

Weather enthusiasts quickly responded, sharing striking photographs of ominous clouds and funnel formations near Gloucester.
Marie O’Connor from Twigworth captured an impressive image of what appeared to be a vast funnel cloud forming at around 4 pm that day. She commented, “It was huge. I’ve never seen anything like it. It looked like a huge tornado, but it obviously wasn’t. I thought it was very strange, but I can’t believe I got such a cool photo of it. Nature is amazing.”
Other witnesses reported seeing twin funnel clouds, while another noted, “I walked out to my car and the entire sky above me was rotating, it was quite scary.”
