Dramatic storm clouds have been observed over Gloucestershire as a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms remains in effect. One resident described the clouds over her home as appearing like a huge tornado.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across much of the UK, cautioning that heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause disruptions to transport, infrastructure, and outdoor events. This warning is valid until 23:59 tonight (Sunday).
Gloucester, meanwhile, has experienced persistent rainfall over several days. On Thursday, 27 August, the Severe Weather Updates Facebook page even raised the possibility of tornadoes near Gloucester, asking residents, “Potential tornado near Gloucester, did anyone see it?”

Weather enthusiasts responded eagerly, sharing photographs of ominous clouds and funnel shapes emerging around Gloucester.
Marie O’Connor from Twigworth shared a striking image taken from her home around 4pm on Thursday, capturing what appeared to be a large funnel cloud. She commented, “It was enormous. I’ve never witnessed anything like it before. It looked like a massive tornado, though it clearly was not. I found it very unusual, but I’m amazed I managed to capture such a remarkable photo of it. Nature truly is incredible.”
Other observers reported spotting twin funnel clouds in the sky. One woman recounted, “I walked out to my car, and the entire sky above me was rotating. It was quite frightening.”
