Cheltenham Town manager Steve Cotterill has been charged by the Football Association (FA) following his dismissal after the 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town last weekend but will still take his place in the dugout for Saturday’s League Two fixture against Crawley Town.
Cotterill was sent off shortly after the final whistle at Whaddon Road, stemming from an incident involving Ray Shearwood, Grimsby’s first team coach analyst, who was also shown a red card.
The FA has confirmed that both Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town have been charged with failing to ensure their players and technical staff refrained from behaviour deemed improper or provocative after the match. Additionally, Cotterill and Shearwood are individually accused of acting improperly, which resulted in their dismissals.

Cheltenham Town have until Monday, 14 September, to respond to the FA charge. Until then, Cotterill is eligible to be present on the touchline for the Robins' game at Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium, with kick-off set for 12:30pm.
Currently, Cheltenham Town sit eighth in the League Two table, having accumulated eight points from their first five matches of the 2026/27 season.
