Steve Cotterill is set to take charge of Cheltenham Town for their League Two fixture against Crawley Town on Saturday, despite being charged by the Football Association (FA) after his red card incident last weekend.
The Cheltenham manager was sent off following the final whistle of the 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town at Whaddon Road. The dismissal followed an altercation involving Grimsby’s first-team coach analyst Ray Shearwood, who was also shown a red card.
The FA has confirmed that both clubs, along with members of their coaching staff, have been charged.

Specifically, Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town have been charged with “failing to ensure their players and/or technical area staff did not behave in a way which was improper and/or provocative following the completion of the fixture.” Additionally, it is alleged that Cotterill and Shearwood acted in an “improper manner at that time,” which led to their dismissals.
Cheltenham Town have until Monday, 14 September, to respond to the FA’s charge. Until then, Cotterill remains eligible to manage from the touchline at the Broadfield Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30pm.
Currently, the Robins sit eighth in the League Two table, having secured eight points from their first five matches of the 2026/27 season.
