This summer, the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) invites families to enjoy a scenic steam train ride across the beautiful Cotswolds with an unbeatable offer: kids under 15 travel for just £1 each. Running until the end of August, this deal allows up to three children to explore a historic 14-mile route for a fraction of the price, provided they’re accompanied by up to two adults paying the full fare of £26.60 each.
The journey winds from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway, featuring notable highlights such as the historic Greet Tunnel and the impressive Stanway Viaduct. Each station along the way showcases its own unique charm, complete with traditional architecture and cozy cafés where visitors can pause and soak up the atmosphere.
Travelers are encouraged to take their time, hopping on and off the train to truly appreciate the distinct character of every stop. To keep younger passengers entertained, GWSR provides a complimentary activities pack designed to engage children as the steam engine gently chugs through the idyllic countryside.

In addition to the £1 kids’ fare, families can enjoy special summer events including Teddy Bear Picnic trains on select Thursdays in August and locomotive-themed crafts and family fun from August 11-23 at Winchcombe Station’s Tim Mitchell Building.
Fiona Tarbet, marketing officer for GWSR, explained, “We understand that times are tough for many families, so we hope this offer makes it easier to enjoy a memorable day out. Plus, the £1 tickets provide access to all our upcoming summer events for youngsters.”
This initiative aligns with the government’s Summer Savings scheme, which temporarily reduces VAT on children’s admissions and meals from 20% to 5%, encouraging families nationwide to make the most of discounted offers at attractions until September 1.
