Gloucester Antiques Centre on Westgate Street is at the heart of mysterious and unsettling paranormal activity. For years, paranormal researcher Paul Cowmeadow has investigated strange occurrences within the historic antiques shop, revealing experiences that defy logical explanation.
Since February, Cowmeadow and fellow investigators James Koppert and Sam Kitson have reported hearing footsteps in empty rooms, sensing unseen touches, and witnessed objects moving on their own. The most startling event involved a shelving unit violently tearing away from the wall and crashing to the floor, seemingly propelled by an invisible force.
Reflecting on these episodes, Paul Cowmeadow shared, “In 10 years of investigating Gloucester Antiques Centre, this is by far the most intense poltergeist activity I have ever encountered. The energy in that building never ceases to amaze me.”

One particularly chilling moment occurred during a ghost tour on February 28. As visitors and customers gathered in the lift room, a room notorious for previous paranormal activity, the shelves suddenly detached from the wall with tremendous force, wiping clear a table full of antiques and startling everyone present. Three customers not involved in the tour later described the experience as genuinely frightening.
Eager to find a rational explanation, Cowmeadow returned to the scene to investigate. “The shelf wasn’t simply falling forward as one might expect,” he explained. “It appeared to have lifted upwards and moved across before crashing down—an action impossible to attribute to gravity alone. This only deepens the mystery.”
Adding to the intrigue, a video recorded inside the centre shows a glowing orb drifting through a darkened room, further hinting at supernatural presence. Additionally, a director at the antiques shop reported her watch stopped working exactly at the moment of the paranormal disturbance, only beginning to function again once she left the premises.
A spokesperson for Gloucester Antiques Centre remarked, “It’s certainly an unusual place to work. We’ve experienced shelves moving and footsteps echoing through empty rooms. The old building naturally has a spooky atmosphere, but it’s also part of its unique charm.”
As mysterious incidents continue, Gloucester Antiques Centre remains a fascinating site for both antique enthusiasts and those intrigued by the paranormal, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and spine-tingling stories.
