As the academic year comes to a close, we highlight six exceptional secondary schools in Gloucestershire that have earned the prestigious ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted. Out of 41 secondary schools in the region, fewer than one in five hold this coveted status, which marks the highest accolade under the previous Ofsted grading system.
Historically, ‘Outstanding’ was awarded to schools delivering exceptional education quality, meeting all ‘Good’ criteria securely, along with rigorous additional standards unique to this top tier. Although in February 2026 Ofsted replaced the ‘Outstanding’ grade with a new ‘Exceptional’ rating, the six schools featured here maintain their esteemed ‘Outstanding’ status under the former system.
