Sir David Beckham Knighted for Outstanding Contributions to Sport and Charity

Football legend Sir David Beckham was officially knighted at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sport and charity. The former Manchester United and England captain received the prestigious honour as part of the King’s Birthday Honours list.

At 50 years old, Beckham’s influence extends far beyond his legendary career on the pitch. He played a key role in securing the 2012 Olympic Games for London, showcasing his commitment to bringing world-class sporting events to the UK. Additionally, Beckham has dedicated two decades as a UNICEF ambassador, advocating for children’s rights globally. Since 2024, he has worked closely with King Charles and The King’s Foundation to support various charitable initiatives.

During his international career, Beckham earned 115 caps for England, captaining the team in 59 matches—a testament to his leadership and skill.

Following the announcement of his knighthood in June, Beckham expressed his heartfelt gratitude: “Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career, and it was literally a boyhood dream come true.”

He continued, “I’m so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I’m grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in, but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.”

Beckham’s wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, also received a new title following the ceremony and will now be known as Lady Beckham. The couple, married since 1999, have four children together: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
