A significant sinkhole has appeared on Tredworth Road in Gloucester, prompting a partial closure of this vital thoroughfare. The affected section forms part of a major bus route connecting the city centre to Tuffley.
Gloucester police posted an update on Facebook on Sunday, February 8, alerting the public: “Tredworth Road in Gloucester is partially closed due to a sinkhole which has opened up on the carriageway.” Closures have been implemented at the junctions of Tredworth Road with Hatherley Road, High Street, and Nelson Street to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
Gloucestershire Highways have been notified and will be conducting repairs overnight and into Monday morning. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the work is underway.

Cllr Sajid Patel of Barton and Tredworth stressed the seriousness of the situation: “Please avoid Tredworth Road (between High Street and Hatherley Road) due to a large sink hole. The road is most likely to be closed for several days or even weeks. It was extremely fortunate that nobody was injured, but one car was badly damaged.”
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, with some noting a rise in sinkholes and potholes throughout the country. Authorities continue to monitor the site closely as they work to restore safe passage.
