Simple 10-Minute DIY Task Can Slash Your Heating Bills – All You Need Is a 97p Tool

As the colder months approach, many households brace themselves for rising heating bills. However, a heating specialist has shared a quick and straightforward DIY task that can help reduce your energy costs—and it only takes about 10 minutes to complete. Best of all, the essential tool needed costs just 97p.

The simple trick involves checking and bleeding your radiators to release trapped air. Over time, air pockets can build up inside radiators, preventing them from heating efficiently and forcing your system to work harder than necessary. By using a basic radiator key, you can easily release this trapped air, allowing your radiators to heat up evenly and improve overall efficiency.

To perform the task, turn off your heating system and let the radiators cool. Then, place a cloth beneath the bleed valve and slowly turn the valve with the radiator key until you hear a hissing sound – this is the air escaping. Once water begins to flow steadily, close the valve. Repeat this on all radiators for optimal results.
