Shoplifter Banned from Nearly All Shops in Cirencester and Fairford for Five Years

Ben Daye of The Beeches has been banned from entering almost every retail shop in Cirencester and nearby Fairford for the next five years following a series of shoplifting offences.

Daye appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court two weeks ago after being charged with eleven shoplifting incidents across Cirencester and Fairford. Found guilty, he was sentenced to 48 weeks in jail and will also be subject to a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) upon his release, according to the Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing team.

The CBO prohibits Daye from entering any retail outlets in Cirencester and Fairford except for a single grocery store and one pharmacy in Cirencester. Violating this order could result in his arrest and further prosecution.

In addition to the theft charges, Daye received penalty points on his driving licence and a charge for driving without insurance. His licence has been endorsed with eight points.

The Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing Team, which requested the CBO, hopes the sentencing will deter others from engaging in shoplifting. Sergeant Robinston stated, “We acknowledge the significant impact Daye’s repeated offences had on local businesses and hope this custodial sentence serves as a strong warning to anyone considering shoplifting.”
