Educating just 67 pupils from ages three to 11, the school has managed to maintain high standards and create a warm, inclusive environment. With a focus on fostering a love of reading, the school has received acclaim for its well-structured curriculum and strong sense of community.
The school’s commitment to tailoring lessons and activities to the interests of each student has been highlighted as a key strength. This personalized approach has contributed to a happy, safe, and valued environment where children demonstrate confidence, self-assurance, and a willingness to engage in learning. Additionally, the school’s efforts to improve the sequencing of learning in all subjects have been noted as beneficial, helping students retain important information.
Ofsted particularly commended Sheepscombe Primary School for its accomplishments in promoting literacy. From the early years with nursery rhymes to dedicated book clubs for older pupils, the curriculum ensures that students develop strong literacy skills and a genuine enjoyment of reading. However, the report did highlight a need for improved phonics knowledge among a small number of pupils, which was affecting their fluency in reading and writing.
