SGS College Footballers Earn First England Caps, Showcasing Talent and Determination

Two promising footballers from South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS), Megan Bible and Harry Ford, have proudly secured their first England caps after being selected for the England Colleges Football Association squads for the 2025/26 season. This achievement follows impressive performances during rigorous trials, culminating in competitive matches against peers from the Independent Schools FA at the FA’s St George’s Park training centre in Derbyshire.

Megan, a dynamic wing-back, played a key role in a thrilling 3–3 draw, contributing 65 minutes of strong play. Meanwhile, central midfielder Harry was instrumental in guiding his team to a 3–1 win. Both players received their England caps in recognition of their outstanding dedication and skills.

Reflecting on her achievement, Megan said, “Receiving confirmation of my national squad selection was an incredible moment. My family’s support means the world to me, and I am eager to continue developing through this experience. Representing England colleges offers exposure to top talent and club scouts, which is invaluable for my growth. SGS provides an excellent environment with high-level coaching and competitive play, helping me strive toward playing at the highest level while enjoying the game.”

Harry’s journey to the squad was marked by persistence. After narrowly missing out the previous year, he expressed his joy: “Making the team this time feels fantastic. The experience will be challenging and rewarding, especially with tough matches ahead, including games against teams like Chelsea. SGS’s combination of full-time training and academics is perfect for balancing football ambitions with education. Playing at this level will sharpen my skills and offer exposure to professional opportunities as we face elite opponents.”

SGS Director of Football, Steve Perkins, praised the duo for their commitment and resilience. “Megan and Harry’s call-ups reflect not only their talent but also their hard work and willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Trials can be daunting, but they embraced the challenge and earned their spots on the national stage.”

Perkins highlighted SGS’s holistic approach: “We provide intense training and game experience but always prioritize the individual. Football is part of our learners’ lives, balanced alongside their busy schedules. Our support includes strength and conditioning, performance analysis, and a focus on making football both enjoyable and demanding.”

With diverse pathways possible—whether further education, scholarships abroad, or professional careers—SGS is committed to supporting each player’s unique journey. “We are excited about the future. Players like Megan and Harry embody the talent and passion found throughout our program,” Perkins concluded.
