Sex Offender Jailed for Possession of Extreme Pornography and Multiple Breaches of Court Order

Anthony McAndrew, a registered sex offender formerly resident in Stroud, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison following the discovery of an extreme pornographic video on his mobile phone. McAndrew pleaded guilty to 11 breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), possession of extreme pornography, and one count of burglary.

In May last year, McAndrew was subject to a five-year SHPO that included strict prohibitions on contact with children and rules governing the use of internet-enabled devices. Under these conditions, he was required to notify police within three days of acquiring any new mobile phone, use only devices capable of retaining and displaying internet usage history, and refrain from using false aliases. Investigations revealed that he violated all these restrictions.

Following visits by his probation officer and an Offender Manager from Gloucestershire Police’s Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team in July, August and December 2023, three separate mobile phones were seized. One of the phones contained the extreme pornographic video.

In addition to these offences, McAndrew admitted to committing a burglary in May 2024, during which he stole a coin collection.

PC Claire Morris of the MOSOVO team stated: “McAndrew has demonstrated that he cannot abide by the control measures which have been put in place to manage his behaviour within the community. A lot of work goes on in our team behind the scenes to try and safeguard those most vulnerable in our communities. When those stringent conditions are breached, it is right that offenders are brought back before the court. I hope this sentence shows breaches like this will not be tolerated.”

McAndrew was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court on 8 September 2024.
