Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage has hailed his team’s performance following a vital 2-0 away victory over Gateshead, which ended their five-match winless streak. The clean sheet achieved was their first in 13 league games, providing a much-needed boost to the squad’s confidence.
The game’s opening goal came early through Tom Knowles, who was expertly set up by goalkeeper Harry Isted. Savage expressed pride in Knowles, revealing the midfielder’s emotional strength, especially after losing his grandmother the day before but choosing to play without sharing the news with his teammates.
Chibby Nwoko doubled the lead just ten minutes into the second half, impressing in his debut as an attacking midfielder for Forest Green. Savage highlighted Nwoko’s ability to drive forward and compose a finish over Gateshead’s goalkeeper Peter Jameson, noting his promising performance despite a missed scoring opportunity.

However, the victory was tempered by injury concerns as Ricardo Rees was forced off midway through the second half due to a left leg injury. Savage feared the worst and confirmed Rees would undergo a scan to determine the severity.
Savage praised the team’s return to a 4-2-3-1 formation and emphasized the importance of the win for player morale and fan support, applauding the fans for their outstanding backing during the match.
Gateshead made several substitutions but were unable to break down Forest Green’s solid defense, as Forest Green’s tactical discipline and clinical finishing secured the three points.
