Saturday Kitchen descends into chaos as Matt Tebbutt warned ‘stop shouting at me!’

This week’s episode of Saturday Kitchen was filled with playful banter and unexpected chaos as guest chef Andi Oliver twice playfully reprimanded host Matt Tebbutt on the BBC show.

On Saturday, 6th December, Andi teamed up with chef Tasha Marikkar to create a vibrant menu featuring Sri Lankan chicken biryani with plantain alongside Caribbean spiced roast chicken wings in a butter curry broth. The episode also featured comedians and podcast hosts Ed Gamble and James Acaster, who teased their upcoming live Off Menu shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

Early on, as Matt eagerly sampled the dishes, Tasha cautioned him that the chicken was only “half-cooked.” Andi joined in, warning him against dipping his hands into the pots. Defending his enthusiasm, Matt said, “It’s a food show! I want to try things! You know what I mean?” Andi’s response was playful yet firm: “Alright, stop shouting at me! He keeps shouting at me, he just does it all the time!”

Matt took the teasing in good stride, laughing it off and hugging Andi while apologizing. “Thank you!” she said with a smile. “Be nice to me.” Their light-hearted exchange continued as Matt’s sarcastic “Yeah” earned him a gentle shove.

Later, tensions rose again when Andi introduced the Caribbean ingredient jaggery (palm sugar). When Matt absentmindedly pushed the jaggery towards other guests instead of offering it politely, Andi chided him, “Don’t throw it at people! Be nice, just gently say ‘how would you like some of this?’ Do you know what I mean?” To which Matt replied, “I’m not a waiter! I do a lot of things here but I’m not a waiter!” Andi laughed and encouraged him to “try!”

As the cooking wrapped up, Ed Gamble remarked on Matt’s presenting style after he brusquely instructed, “Shove it forward,” quickly correcting to “Place it forward.” Andi commented on the tone with a smile: “The tone is extraordinary, isn’t it?” Ed added humorously, “You host the show like you’re a prison officer.”

Saturday Kitchen continues to air Saturdays at 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, offering a fun mix of culinary skills, celebrity guests, and lighthearted moments.
