Ryanair Responds to Claims of Flight Savings for Families

Passengers looking to save money on Ryanair flights have been encouraged by consumer platform Which? to adopt certain booking strategies that could reduce costs by over £100. However, Ryanair has swiftly dismissed these claims, calling them “fake news.”

Which? highlighted that families traveling with Ryanair might cut costs by avoiding the airline’s suggested “Regular” fare tier. For example, a family of four flying from London to Alicante during summer would pay £59 more by choosing the “Regular” fare than by selecting the “Basic” fare and adding seats and baggage later during booking.

Moreover, Which? pointed out that reducing the number of cabin bags from eight, included in the “Regular” fare, to four could save another £163. The platform noted, “The Regular fare comes with priority boarding, carry-on luggage, and free standard seat selection included, but in around 30 checks over two years, it was cheaper only once.”

In February 2026, Which? reviewed 15 different flights and found that only one offered a cheaper Regular fare, even when all extras were desired.

In response, a Ryanair spokesperson told Sky News, “This is more fake news from Which? Thankfully, no one reads or takes any notice of Which’s recycled articles or their spurious advice, as our passenger numbers growing from 200 million to 208 million in 2025 clearly demonstrate.”
