Ryan Broom Returns to Cheltenham Town for Third Spell

Cheltenham Town has welcomed back midfielder Ryan Broom for his third spell with the club. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder and winger rejoined the Robins this summer after departing Fleetwood Town.

Broom previously spent two successful seasons at Cheltenham between 2018 and 2020, where he notably earned the club’s Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 season. During that campaign, Cheltenham reached the League Two play-off semi-finals, narrowly losing to Northampton Town.

Following his initial stint, the South Wales native moved on to Peterborough United before returning to Cheltenham for the 2022/23 League One season. He played a key role in helping the club avoid relegation under manager Wade Elliott. Afterward, Broom spent two seasons with Fleetwood Town.

Now, Broom becomes Cheltenham’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Robbie Cundy, Lee Angol, and Taine Anderson. He is set to make an appearance in the upcoming pre-season friendly against Bristol City at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Broom said, “I’m delighted to be back to be honest with you. As soon as the interest was there, this was the club I wanted to be at. I’ve got some really good memories but now I’m looking forward to the future and to make some new ones. Obviously the season is approaching soon and I’m looking forward to August 2 at Cambridge and getting started there.”

In addition to Broom’s return, Cheltenham Town is close to finalizing a deal with an experienced central defender, with further signings expected ahead of the League Two campaign opener against Cambridge United on August 2.
