Royal Mail has announced that deliveries to 90 postcode areas across the United Kingdom will be delayed today, Monday, 27 July. Among the affected regions are five postcode areas within Gloucester and surrounding parts of Gloucestershire.
The postal service attributed these disruptions to localised challenges such as high levels of sickness absence and resource shortages in some local offices. In a statement, Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.”
To manage the impact, Royal Mail is rotating deliveries to minimise delays to individual customers. The company is also providing targeted support to impacted offices to restore service to its usual high standard. They apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their understanding.

Despite these localised issues, Royal Mail’s air and road network has reportedly been operating on schedule over the past 24 hours.
In related news, last week Royal Mail introduced an updated version of its “Something for You” delivery cards, which are left at addresses when delivery attempts are unsuccessful. The new cards feature a fresh design and a QR code to help customers track parcels more easily and arrange redeliveries conveniently.
Royal Mail explained via social media: “We’ve revitalised our Something for You delivery cards - with a fresh new look and a clever upgrade. They now come with an easy-to-scan QR code - because even the most charming handwriting deserves a digital sidekick. The new card is simpler, faster, and a more secure way to stay in control of your missed deliveries.”
A video accompanying the announcement detailed the process: “This updated version includes a QR code that provides direct access to your item’s location. Simply scan the QR code on the card using your mobile phone to instantly view your tracking details.
“You’ll see a link starting with RYML.me. Tapping this will open your tracking page with your unique nine-digit tracking code already filled in. Enter your delivery postcode to confirm access and see your item’s latest status, including any safe place photos or neighbour delivery details.
“Alternatively, customers can manually enter the nine-digit code on the Royal Mail website or app. If the item has been taken back to the local delivery office, the recipient’s name will be displayed to ensure the correct ID is brought upon collection.
“Customers can also request a redelivery for a date that suits them.”
These improvements aim to enhance the overall customer experience despite the current delays affecting certain areas.
