Although the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) will not take place this summer, preparations are well underway for the highly anticipated 2027 event. Organisers have revealed that one of the headline themes for RIAT 2027 will be the exhilarating ‘Tiger Gathering.’
Originally scheduled for July 17 to 19, 2026, this year’s festival was cancelled due to RAF Fairford’s current use as an active military base amid ongoing operations in the Middle East. Undeterred, the team behind the world’s largest military airshow is now focusing on delivering a spectacular return next year.
The ‘Tiger Gathering’ theme will spotlight a special anniversary celebration of NATO Tiger units, marking 50 years since the inaugural Silver Tiger Trophy was awarded by the International Air Tattoo to the NATO Tiger Association. The Silver Tiger Trophy is the most prestigious accolade presented during the NATO Tiger Meet—an annual military exercise fostering camaraderie among allied air forces.

RIAT 2027 promises a vibrant display featuring aircraft from NATO members, many showcasing the iconic tiger-inspired paint schemes that distinguish this unique aviation community. Known for its spirit of professionalism, creativity, and strong team bonds, the NATO Tiger Association’s tradition of decorating aircraft with striking tiger motifs will take center stage, delivering a rare opportunity to see these aircraft assembled in one place.
Peter Reoch, Head of Air Operations at Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, expressed enthusiasm: “The 50th anniversary of the Silver Tiger Trophy offers a fantastic chance to celebrate the enduring heritage of the NATO Tiger Association at RIAT. The Tiger Meet community radiates energy, color, and personality, and bringing that spirit to RIAT will provide visitors with an unforgettable experience. It will be a ramp full of some of the most eye-catching military aircraft in the world.”
RIAT typically draws over 200 aircraft and nearly 200,000 visitors from across the globe, creating a memorable experience for aviation enthusiasts and families alike. Beyond showcasing aviation excellence, the event raises essential funds for the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, supporting its mission to inspire young people in the fields of air, space, and technology.
While ‘Tiger Gathering’ is set to be a highlight of RIAT 2027, organisers hint at additional themes and attractions to be unveiled later this year. “An event on the scale of RIAT requires years of careful planning,” Reoch noted. “Although 2027 may seem distant, our team is already hard at work crafting an exceptional show, with several exciting themes in development.”
RIAT fans can look forward to a vibrant, action-packed return in 2027, celebrating aviation heritage, NATO alliances, and unforgettable moments in the skies.
