Royal Family Confirms Historic Second State Visit by Donald Trump Amid Public Backlash

The Royal Family has officially confirmed that former US President Donald Trump will undertake a second state visit to the United Kingdom from September 17 to 19, 2025. This announcement, made through the Royal Family’s social media channels on Monday, July 14, marks a historic occasion—the first time a US president has been invited for a second state visit to the UK.

Accompanied by a photograph featuring King Charles and Queen Camilla alongside Donald and Melania Trump from their previous visit, the post stated: “His Majesty The King will host The President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady, Melania Trump, for a State Visit to the UK.”

The invitation followed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s delivery of an official letter from King Charles at the White House earlier this year. Starmer described the invitation as “truly historic and unprecedented,” while Trump expressed great honor upon receiving it.

Despite the historic nature of the visit, the announcement has ignited considerable controversy among British citizens. Many have taken to social media to express their disapproval. Comments include pleas for cancellation and criticisms of the decision: one user wrote, “Bad idea, Charles,” another added, “I love my Royal Family but do not support this decision,” and a further voice lamented, “Why? Very unpopular move by the looks of it. Listen to the people. They don’t want him here.”

Critics went further, with one user withdrawing their support for the Royal Family based on their low regard for Trump’s character and policies. They stated, “I strongly believe this individual does not deserve recognition of any kind… he treats others with contempt and disregards their rights and wellbeing.”

Conversely, supporters also voiced their enthusiasm. Some praised the monarchy with comments such as, “God save The King! God bless America!” while others welcomed Trump warmly back to the UK.

In his letter to Trump, King Charles highlighted the “breadth of challenges across the world,” emphasizing the importance of the UK-US special relationship and their shared global responsibilities. The King also referenced Trump’s golf course in Turnberry and hinted at the possibility of visits to Balmoral or Dumfries House in Scotland. He noted that Dumfries House, through his Foundation, offers hospitality skills training to young people, some of whom have gone on to work at Trump’s establishments.

King Charles expressed a desire to collaborate on the visit’s itinerary and locations to enrich the relationship between the two nations further. He stated, “I know we will further enhance the special relationship between our two countries, of which we are both so proud.”

The planned visit remains a subject of intense public discussion and reflects the complex dynamics between diplomatic traditions and public sentiment in the UK.
