Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden, the acclaimed Cirencester-based dining destination renowned for its award-winning gin and sustainable ethos, has proudly opened its second location. The new Roots + Seeds Café & Kitchen is now part of Gloucester Food Hub at the city Docks, offering breathtaking views over the historic Victoria Basin.
Welcoming all visitors—including dogs—this new site serves hearty, seasonally inspired brasserie-style dishes rooted in contemporary British cuisine. The menu is frequently refreshed to highlight the best local and home-grown produce sourced from Gloucestershire suppliers and the restaurant’s own quarter-acre kitchen garden back in Cirencester.
Guests can enjoy an array of options, from expertly brewed coffee and freshly baked pastries to breakfast, brunch, creative sandwiches, salads, and substantial mains like burgers and fresh pasta. The daily ‘Specials Board’ showcases ‘Field to Fork’ specials that emphasize seasonal freshness and local ingredients.

The café boasts a fully stocked bar spotlighting the award-winning Roots + Seeds London Dry Gin, expertly crafted by co-founder Sam Lawson-King and expertly mixed into cocktails. The drinks menu also includes a carefully curated selection of wines selected by local connoisseurs Talking Wines, featuring award-winning vintages from Woodchester Valley Vineyard near Stroud, alongside beers brewed by Gloucester Brewery and Cotswold Lakes Brew Co.
Nestled within Gloucester Food Dock’s vibrant atmosphere and renowned independent food scene, Roots + Seeds Café & Kitchen occupies a beautifully restored Victorian warehouse with harbourside terrace seating—ideal for sun-soaked dining experiences overlooking the Victoria Basin.
This expansion builds on the success of Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden and Cattivo Pizza, both based at the Old Kennels in Cirencester. Established in Easter 2023, Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden quickly rose to acclaim, and Cattivo Pizza followed in July 2024. The ventures were co-founded by lifelong friends Toby Baggott and Sam Lawson-King, who share a passion for sustainability and community engagement in the hospitality sector.
Their journey began post-Covid with ‘The Scenic Supper,’ a unique fine dining experience in vintage glasshouses atop a Cotswolds hill, housed in a repurposed shipping container kitchen. As dining preferences evolved, they pivoted to Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden, their first permanent venue.
Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden has since earned multiple accolades, including Start-up of the Year at the Gloucestershire Foodie Awards 2024, Best Restaurant in the Cotswolds at the Slow Cotswolds Awards 2024, and a Highly Commended nod for Chef of the Year at the So Glos Lifestyle Awards 2024.
