Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage remains confident about securing a play-off spot after a hard-fought 1-1 draw away at Truro City. With an unassailable nine-point lead in the league, the only scenario that could see them dropped from the play-offs involves Halifax overturning an 18-goal difference in just three games.
The match was far from straightforward. Despite being reduced to ten men following Abraham Kanu’s sending off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity—and suffering a hamstring injury expected to keep him out for the rest of the season—Forest Green took the lead through Tom Knowles in the 75th minute. Knowles capitalized on an inswinging cross from Kyle McAllister to put the visitors ahead.
Savage praised his team’s resilient defensive performance, especially in the face of challenging wind conditions unfamiliar to them but common at Truro: “In the first half, I thought we defended really well against that wind, which I’ve never experienced before in my career. I even spoke to John Askey who confirmed it’s common here.”

However, tragedy struck late as Luke Jephcott equalized for Truro five minutes from time following a critical defensive mistake from substitute Gabe Kircough, who mishandled the ball and passed it directly to Jephcott inside the penalty area. Savage was visibly frustrated, stressing the importance of learning from such errors: “That kind of mistake at this level is not acceptable. If you keep doing things like that, you won’t be in the team. We have to be better.”
The Forest Green boss also received his seventh booking of the season, penalized for not controlling his technical staff during a substitution delay—a rare application of IFAB’s Law 12, which holds the senior coach responsible if an offender in the technical area cannot be identified.
Despite the frustrations, Savage emphasized the positive: “We’re nine points clear with goal difference on our side. We essentially have a place in the play-offs, which remains our key objective.”
Forest Green’s resilience under tough conditions coupled with Savage’s candid management approach sets the stage for an intense run-in to the season.
