Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage expressed immense pride in his team’s performance following their resounding 4-0 home victory against Weston-super-Mare in the FA Trophy, securing their place in the fourth round with confidence and style.
The match was highlighted by standout performances from Kyle McAllister and Jayden Clarke, both of whom scored braces after impressive second-half displays. Savage credited his side’s strength in depth and tactical tweaks for overturning a goalless first half.
“The boys were magnificent after the break,” Savage stated. “Weston-super-Mare is a strong team with a talented manager in Scott Rogers, and they’re currently competing in the third round of the FA Cup, so this victory feels very special.”

Despite dominating possession throughout the game, Forest Green Rovers struggled to convert chances in the first half. However, a key moment came in the 52nd minute when Harry Whitwell delivered a precise cross into the box, met perfectly by McAllister’s late run and powerful header, opening the scoring.
Savage praised McAllister’s versatility and work ethic, noting his role as a number six midfielder in the second half while highlighting his impressive energy levels and goal involvements. “Kyle can play anywhere – right, left, six, eight, or ten. He’s already scored nine goals and provided six assists this season, but I believe he’s capable of delivering 30 goal contributions if he continues to add numbers.”
McAllister quickly doubled his tally, firing a low, powerful shot into the net following a strong hold-up from substitute Temi Babalola. Jayden Clarke, who entered the game at halftime, then made an immediate impact by netting an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box, followed by a second goal just over ten minutes later on a counterattack, sealing the emphatic win.
Savage reflected on the decision to start with two attacking midfielders, describing it as a calculated move that paid off handsomely. With the team keeping their first clean sheet since October, Savage reiterated his belief in the squad’s ability to take on any challenge in the next round of the FA Trophy.
“We’re in the draw pot now, and honestly, I don’t mind who we get drawn against. We can beat anyone on our day,” he said.
Acknowledging ongoing criticism about the team’s defensive record, Savage emphasized the importance of this clean sheet combined with clinical finishing. Although Forest Green Rovers hit the woodwork twice and had goals cleared off the line, the manager was encouraged by the progress made in training.
Looking ahead, Savage hinted at bolstering his squad during the January transfer window to maintain momentum.
Team line-ups included notable substitutions such as Clarke, Babalola, and Bunker, who all contributed to the decisive turnaround after halftime. The match drew an attendance of 973 supporters, including 206 away fans, in a spirited footballing contest controlled decisively by Forest Green Rovers.
