Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage highlighted the team’s growing momentum and exciting performances following their 4-0 triumph over Brackley Town at The New Lawn this Good Friday. With this victory, Rovers are eyeing a top-five finish that could secure a home play-off quarter-final.
A turning point came late in a cautious first half when Brackley midfielder Zak Brown, already booked, received a second yellow and was sent off for a reckless challenge on Jili Buyabu. Right after, Forest Green capitalized instantly with a swift corner routine finished by D’Mani Mellor, marking his first home goal.
Savage applauded the team’s instinctive play, especially praising Nick Haughton, who contributed a hat trick of assists. “Kyle McAllister’s and Laurent Mendy’s goals were unbelievable,” Savage said. “Nick’s three assists showed his quality; he played with freedom and creativity.”

The second-half goals came from McAllister curling a spectacular strike into the top corner and Buyabu finishing off another Haughton assist, sealing Brackley’s fate. Mendy crowned the win with a stunning long-range shot in the final minutes.
Savage emphasized the squad’s aim to surpass last season’s 83-point tally, with the team currently on 74 points, slightly behind their pace last year. “This is what we want — flair, entertainment, and that hunger,” Savage added, noting Mendy’s return to form after a brief dip.
The win continues Forest Green’s resurgence, marking their fifth victory in seven matches, coupled with clean sheets and an attacking style creating plenty of excitement around the club’s ambitions.
