Residents of Cinderford in Gloucestershire were left amused after spotting a spelling error in new road markings for electric vehicle charging bays on Station Street. The bays were marked as being for “electric vehicels only,” an error that caught the eye of locals.
Reform UK Councillor Ray Donaghue, representing Cinderford on Gloucestershire County Council, reported the mistake on Monday, 27 July. Remarkably, the incorrect road marking was repainted the very next day.
“It’s one of those things and it’s made us laugh,” Councillor Donaghue commented. “I’ve seen misspellings like a ‘Worchester’ sign and ‘no parkeng’ before, but ‘electric vehicels only’ is a new one. It reminded me of the ‘no regerts’ tattoo phenomenon. Normally, if I reported this it would take 28 days, but I bet the contractors sprang into action and were out like a flash this morning (27 July).”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Harris, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, confirmed the mistake had been swiftly corrected. “We thank Cllr Donaghue for bringing this to our attention,” he said. “As soon as the error was realised, we contacted our contractors who fixed the issue on Tuesday morning.”
Shire Hall, responsible for maintaining approximately 3,200 miles of roads across Gloucestershire, takes care to address such issues promptly to maintain the quality and safety of the county’s road network.
