A humorous spelling error on newly painted road markings has caused a stir among residents of Cinderford, Gloucestershire. The charging bays on Station Street were incorrectly marked for “electric vehicels only”, prompting a mix of amusement and curiosity from the community.
The mistake was first reported on Monday, 27 July, by Reform UK Councillor Ray Donaghue, who represents Cinderford on Gloucestershire County Council. The misspelling was swiftly addressed and corrected the very next day.
“It’s one of those things and it’s made us laugh,” Councillor Donaghue commented. “I’ve seen a ‘Worchester’ sign and ‘no parkeng’ before but I think ‘electric vehicels only’ is a new one. It made me think of the ‘no regerts’ tattoo phenomenon. Normally, if I reported this it would take 28 days but I bet the contractors sparked into action and were out like a flash this morning (July 28).”

“Normally, if I reported this it would take 28 days but I bet the contractors sparked into action and were out like a flash this morning.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Harris, the Cabinet Member for Highways at Gloucestershire County Council, confirmed the error had been fixed. “We thank Cllr Donaghue for bringing this to our attention. As soon as the error was realised, we contacted our contractors who fixed the issue on Tuesday morning.”
Shire Hall oversees maintenance of approximately 3,200 miles of road across Gloucestershire, ensuring infrastructure is up to standard for all users.
