A spelling error on newly painted road markings sparked amusement among residents of Cinderford, Gloucestershire. The electric vehicle charging bays on Station Street briefly bore the incorrect inscription “electric vehicels only.”
The mistake was first reported to Gloucestershire County Council on Monday, 27 July, by Reform UK Councillor Ray Donaghue, who represents Cinderford. The following day, contractors repainted the marking to correct the error.
“It’s one of those things and it’s made us laugh,” Cllr Donaghue commented. “I’ve come across other amusing mistakes like a ‘Worchester’ sign and a ‘no parkeng’ notice, but I think ‘electric vehicels only’ is a new one. It reminded me of the ‘no regerts’ tattoo phenomenon.

“Normally, reporting such an issue might take up to 28 days to resolve, but I believe the contractors acted quickly and were out repainting the marking on the morning of Tuesday, 28 July.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Harris, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, expressed gratitude to Cllr Donaghue for highlighting the error. “As soon as we became aware of the mistake, we immediately contacted our contractors who promptly fixed the issue on Tuesday morning,” he said.
Gloucestershire County Council, based at Shire Hall, is responsible for maintaining approximately 3,200 miles of roads throughout the county.
