Rivals returns to Disney+ with its eagerly awaited second season, premiering Friday, May 15. Set against the flamboyant backdrop of 1980s Rutshire regional television, this British comedy-drama plunges viewers into a world of big hair, bold patterns, and high-stakes power struggles, adapted from Jilly Cooper’s beloved novel.
This new season intensifies the fierce contest for the Central South West television franchise, where the rivalry between Corinium and Venturer spirals into a dangerous battle. Tony Baddingham, portrayed by David Tennant, grows more ruthless, wielding scandal and manipulation to crush his opposition and retain control. Amid the decade’s hedonistic excess, personal lives become tumultuous, with fractured marriages, secret affairs, and long-hidden secrets exploding with dramatic consequences. Loyalty is tested, hearts are broken, and the true cost of ambition unfolds.
Season two also introduces several notable new cast members. English-American actress Hayley Atwell joins as Rupert Campbell-Black’s (Alex Hassell) ex-wife and mother to his children. Renowned for her roles as Peggy Carter in Marvel’s Agent Carter and appearances in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Atwell brings depth to the storyline.

Emerging talent Maxim Ays takes on the role of Sebbie Carlisle, and Bobby Lockwood portrays Dommie Carlisle. Ays has appeared in The Larkins and Doctor Who, while Lockwood’s credits include Wolfblood, Casualty, and The Emily Atack Show.
Fans will also be pleased to see the return of the star-studded original cast. David Tennant leads as Tony Baddingham, joined by Alex Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black, and Aidan Turner as Declan O’Hara. Victoria Smurfit reprises her role as Maud O’Hara, with Nafessa Williams as TV executive Cameron Cook and Katherine Parkinson as author Lizzie Vereker.
Additional familiar faces include Bella Maclean, Danny Dyer, Claire Rushbrook, Oliver Chris, Lisa McGrillis, Emily Atack, Rufus Jones, Luca Pasqualino, and Bryony Hannah from Call The Midwife. The combination of returning favorites and fresh talent promises a season packed with drama, intrigue, and 80s glamor.
Rivals season two launches on Disney+ this Friday and will continue to air weekly, delivering an addictive mix of ambition, betrayal, and passion in the vibrant world of Rutshire television.
