Richard Hammond Confirms New Relationship Following Divorce After 28 Years Together

Richard Hammond has publicly confirmed he is currently in a new relationship after separating from his wife of 23 years, Mindy. The former Top Gear star, who ended their nearly three-decade-long partnership last year, shared new details about his life during a recent interview.

Writing in a column for The Telegraph, Hammond described his typical evenings, subtly revealing his companionship: “I tend to eat relatively early. Sometimes it’s just me; sometimes I’m with my girlfriend; sometimes friends are still around. I’m perfectly happy with a quiet evening watching television.” This marks the first time Hammond has openly addressed his romantic life since the divorce announcement.

The past year was challenging for the presenter. Aside from the end of his marriage announced in January, Hammond also faced the passing of his father, Alan, in February. Throughout their 28 years together, including 23 years as a married couple, Hammond and Mindy maintained a strong family bond. They emphasized that no third party was involved in their separation and remain committed to co-parenting their two daughters.

In a joint statement, the couple said, “Our marriage is coming to an end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters. We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created.”

Since the divorce, Hammond has been adapting to new circumstances. He shared candid reflections during the premiere of the latest season of Richard Hammond’s Workshop, remarking on his new living situation. “Let’s get something out of the way straight away,” he told viewers. “There has been a slight change in my circumstances recently. I got divorced. Which means I now live here.”

Describing his new home, Hammond added, “I like it. It’s got amazing views, a place to keep some of my cars and bikes, and best of all it’s closer to the workshop. I’m trying to put a silver lining on this. It’s been a tough few years, but it’s not all bad.”

Hammond and Mindy also shared on social media their commitment to maintaining a strong family connection despite living apart. “A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family, and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently,” they said.

Beyond his personal life, Richard Hammond remains one of Britain’s most recognizable motoring presenters. Originating from Solihull and raised in Yorkshire, his career spanned from local radio to international fame alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May on Top Gear and The Grand Tour. Alongside his television career, Hammond runs The Smallest Cog, an automotive restoration business, and continues to pursue his passion for engineering-related projects.

In his recent column, Hammond expressed a fondness for classic, character-driven storytelling, including his appreciation for the series Landman. He also voiced a desire for more documentaries focused on engineering itself rather than the presenter, noting, “I like standing next to something remarkable and explaining why it’s remarkable.”

Now residing in the Welsh countryside, Richard Hammond leads a quieter life while staying active in television and digital media, balancing his personal evolution with his enduring love for cars and engineering.
