Plans are underway to transform The Lodge, a historic building near Gloucester’s picturesque Matson Lane, into a vibrant community space. The Redwell Centre, in partnership with the Matson Anglers, aims to repurpose the dilapidated site to provide essential facilities and dining options if the proposed plans come to fruition.
The ambitious project seeks to convert the building into an ice cream parlour during the summer months, while offering hot food options such as jacket potatoes and soups in the winter. Despite the potential, the project faces significant restoration and regulatory hurdles, given the building’s listing status.
Vanessa Worrall, Project Manager at The Redwell Centre, emphasizes the longstanding vision to revitalize the site into a community resource. The initiative, backed by Gloucester City Homes, intends to benefit the local community, particularly families and older individuals, by offering diverse events and activities throughout the year.

Worrall’s hope for the site to serve as an ice cream parlour aligns with the goal of providing accessible events and activities organized by The Redwell Centre. The project envisions an inclusive space that caters to the needs of the community and fosters a sense of togetherness.
