In the recent episode of Channel 5’s Life in the Dales, Reuben Owen shared a sincere and touching declaration of love to his girlfriend, Jessica Ellwood. The show follows Reuben, a young farmer managing his family’s 2,000-acre farm in Swaledale, North Yorkshire, as he balances the demands of agriculture with family life.
Reuben, who grew up learning the trade from his parents Clive and Amanda Owen, gained public recognition through the popular series Our Yorkshire Farm. Now starring alongside Jessica, who supports his agricultural machinery business, the couple continues to share their farming journey with viewers.
During Tuesday’s (26 May) episode, Jessica was marking grout hole locations with red spray paint across the farmland. Alongside fellow cast member Sonny Poulter, she creatively shaped some markers like farm animals and surrounded others with hearts indicating additional drilling points. When Reuben noticed the heart designs and asked about the drilling plans, Jessica revealed, “This is for you.” Reuben responded warmly, “Aw, I love you too,” before sharing a sweet kiss with her. Sonny playfully mocked the display of affection, adding a lighthearted moment to the scene.

Jessica, who farms at her family’s Brough Castle farm, and Reuben met in October 2024 at a young farmers’ convention. Jessica reflected on their connection during the show, saying, “Ever since we first met, we just clicked. I think it’s because I’m from a farming background, so’s Reuben.” She added, “I just love him to bits. Love his family, get on great with them.” Reuben also candidly shared to OK magazine the story of how he asked her out, admitting it took some courage: “I wasn’t that brave but I just asked her one night… I’d lost my wallet and she had to pay for my dinner!”
Reuben further revealed in a previous interview with The Mirror that his family warmly welcomed Jessica: “Mum and Jess get on well, they talk about sheep together. They all approve and get along really well.” Looking ahead, the couple plans to move in together soon. Reuben shared, “We’re just waiting for something to come up. I’ve got to try and get a nice place, maybe a farm where I can park my diggers and she can keep her sheep and cows.”
