In a heartfelt moment on the latest episode of Channel 5’s Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales, young farmer Reuben Owen made a sweet declaration of love to his girlfriend, Jessica Ellwood.
The series follows Reuben as he manages the sprawling 2,000-acre family farm in Swaledale, North Yorkshire, continuing the legacy taught to him by his parents, Clive and Amanda Owen. Reuben first gained public attention alongside his family in Our Yorkshire Farm, and now he and Jessica are front and center in their own show. Jessica, also from a farming background, supports Reuben by working in his agricultural machinery business.
In the episode aired on Tuesday, 26 May, Jessica was seen marking spots for grout holes across the farm with red spray paint, even shaping some marks into farm animals and hearts. When Reuben noticed the heart-shaped markings, Jessica told him, “This is for you.” Overwhelmed, Reuben responded warmly, “Aw, I love you too,” before they shared a tender kiss. Fellow cast member Sonny Poulter humorously reacted by pretending to retch, adding a lighthearted moment to the scene.

Reuben and Jessica’s relationship began in October 2024 after meeting at a young farmers’ convention. Jessica, who works on her family’s Brough Castle farm, said on the show, “Ever since we first met, we just clicked. I think it’s because I’m from a farming background, so’s Reuben.” She added, “I just love him to bits. Love his family, get on great with them.”
Reuben opened up to OK magazine about his initial shyness: “It took me a while to ask her out… I just asked her one night. We went out for some tea, and I’d lost my wallet, so she had to pay for my dinner!”
He also shared with The Mirror how well Jessica fits into his family: “Mum and Jess get on well, they talk about sheep together, they all approve and get along really well.”
Looking ahead, the couple plans to move in together soon. Reuben said, “We’re just waiting for something to come up. I’ve got to try and get a nice place, maybe a farm one day. It would be ideal to have a farm where I can park my diggers and she can keep her sheep and cows.”
