Reuben Owen: From Our Yorkshire Farm to Life in the Dales – Love, Family, and Farming Challenges

Reuben Owen has become a familiar face on British television, known for his genuine connection to farming life and his charming personality. Rising to fame through Channel 5’s hit series Our Yorkshire Farm alongside his parents, Amanda and Clive Owen, Reuben has now taken centre stage with his own show, Life in the Dales.

The programme follows Reuben as he steers a machinery business at Ravenseat, a vast 2,000-acre family estate nestled in Swaledale, North Yorkshire. Having learned the ropes under the guidance of his parents, Reuben’s deep-rooted farming knowledge shines through.

But beyond the fields and tractors, who shares Reuben’s world?

At 22, Reuben is in a relationship with Jessica, a fellow agricultural enthusiast working at her family’s Brough Castle farm. The couple’s romance blossomed after meeting at a young farmers’ convention in October 2024. Jessica shared on the show, “We just clicked from the start because we both come from farming backgrounds.” Meanwhile, Reuben joked about their first date, admitting he lost his wallet, and Jessica had to cover the bill.

Family plays a big role in their relationship too. Reuben told OK magazine, “Mum and Jess get on really well – they even talk sheep together.” Looking ahead, the couple hopes to establish their own home, ideally a farm where Reuben can park his diggers and Jessica can raise her sheep and cows. When asked about starting a family, Reuben wryly commented, “I don’t think I fancy having nine kids like mine, but we’ll see.”

Before Jessica, Reuben was in a long-term relationship with Sarah Dow, a connection going back to childhood. The couple celebrated milestones openly on social media, but eventually parted ways. Reuben addressed the split during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, emphasizing that they remain good friends despite going separate ways.

Life on the farm isn’t without its hazards. A poignant moment on Life in the Dales features fellow farmer Dave Ellwood recounting a terrifying incident from 15 years ago when he was airlifted to intensive care after a bull charged him. Dave, whose daughter Jess is romantically linked to Reuben, described how the accident left him with nine broken ribs and a ruptured spleen. “Yeah, it made a mess of me,” he said candidly, underscoring the real dangers farmers face daily.

Reuben Owen’s story is one of passion for farming, enduring family bonds, and navigating young love amidst the rugged beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. Tune in to Life in the Dales every Tuesday at 8:00pm on Channel 5 to follow his journey.
