Reuben Owen Embraces Rural Life, Rules Out Moving to the City with Girlfriend Jess Ellwood

Reuben Owen, star of Our Yorkshire Farm, has made it clear that neither he nor his girlfriend, Jess Ellwood, plans to trade their rural lifestyle for city living. The couple, who met at a Young Farmers' event in 2024 and confirmed their relationship publicly later that year, have recently taken a major step by moving in together.

Reuben, who grew up in nearby Swaledale, is now happily settled at Jess’ family’s farm in Brough Castle, Cumbria. Speaking on Channel 5’s Storm and Alexis programme, the pair were asked whether they have any desire to swap farm life for the hustle and bustle of a big city.

Despite the tempting prospect of urban life, both 22-year-olds were quick to rule out any move. When Alexis Conran asked if there were moments wishing for city life, Reuben responded, “Personally, no. I’ve always grown up in the countryside.” Looking at Jess, he added warmly, “And working with you, being in the countryside, and spending time together. There is no place I’d rather be, but I’d go anywhere with you.”

When Storm Huntley questioned if a move to London was on the horizon, Reuben firmly replied, “No, I don’t think so.”

Talking about their new life together, Reuben told the Mirror, “I used to come down at night to see Jess, and I just wouldn’t want to leave her. Then you stay another night, and another. It started with a toothbrush, and now my pants are in the washing machine, and my dinner is on the table. Now I’m all in. We’re loving our time together; it just gets better and better. It’s brilliant being with Jess’ family too—they’re such a lovely bunch.”

He also praised Jess’ family for welcoming him so warmly: “They’ve taken me in and welcomed me with open arms. It’s nice to be able to spend all my time with Jess.”

Jess shared her view of their life together: “He was there all the time anyway; it just made sense. It’s so lovely living together, really special. We go out for the odd meal on date nights and went on holiday to Cyprus last year. But mainly—when we’re not working—you’ll find us cosying up with fish and chips or a Chinese takeaway.”

Fans can catch more from the couple and other countryside stars on Storm & Alexis, airing weekdays at 11:30am on Channel 5.
