Landlords Tamara Bridgeman and Steve Griffiths have expressed immense relief after The Globe Inn, a beloved village pub in Berry Hill near Coleford, was sold at auction without their prior knowledge — yet they have been allowed to remain in charge.
Tamara, 26, who has been part of the pub’s fabric since age 14 when she started as a pot washer, and her fiancé Steve, 30, have run The Globe Inn since December 2021. So the sudden appearance of an auction sign outside the pub last month came as a huge shock to them, especially as no notice was given by the previous owners.
The couple posted on The Globe Inn’s Facebook page, sharing their devastation but reassuring patrons: “We are not going anywhere and we have no plans to leave the pub.”

Weeks of uncertainty followed, with the local community rallying around them — even offering to crowdfund to help secure the pub’s future under Tamara and Steve’s stewardship.
Last week, The Globe Inn went under the hammer and sold for £211,000, significantly above the £179,000 guide price. The pub was purchased by a local couple who fully support Tamara and Steve staying on and continuing to manage this cherished community hub.
An update on the pub’s Facebook page last Friday brought good news: “The Globe is safe, and our tenancy is secure. We’ve met with the new owners and came away feeling very positive. They genuinely care about The Globe and our community, and we’re excited to work together to keep the pub thriving for years to come.”
Tamara added that the incredible support from customers and locals throughout this stressful time was a lifeline: “It was a real shock to hear nothing until the auction sign appeared just two and a half weeks before the sale. I’ve spent 12 years here — this pub is my life. The kindness and offers of support have kept me going.”
She also reflected on the relationship with the previous owners as minimal, but praised the new owners for their community-focused approach: “They are local, intend no major changes, and we feel safe with them.”
The Globe Inn will continue to host its popular events, including the upcoming Globefest music festival scheduled for May 2027. The pub remains open daily, welcoming patrons old and new at 40 Park Road, Berry Hill.
