The landlords of The Globe Inn, a beloved village pub in Berry Hill near Coleford, have expressed immense relief after the venue was unexpectedly put up for auction by its previous owners—without any prior notice to them.
Tamara Bridgeman, 26, and her fiancé Steve Griffiths, 30, have been running The Globe Inn since December 2021. Tamara’s connection to the pub runs deep; she started working there at just 14 years old as a pot washer and has spent 12 years of her life at the venue.
Last month, Tamara and Steve were stunned when an auction sign appeared outside the pub, announcing it was for sale. The couple said they were given no warning or time to prepare, sparking worry about their future.

“We were devastated,” Tamara shared on the pub’s Facebook page. “We had no prior notice until the auction sign arrived outside. It only went up about two and a half weeks before the auction itself. It was a real shock.” Despite the turmoil, they reassured patrons, saying, “We are not going anywhere and have no plans to leave the pub.”
Local support poured in immediately, with patrons offering to crowdfund to help the couple retain the pub. Thanks to this groundswell of community backing, The Globe Inn was sold last week (July 9) for £211,000—above the guide price of £179,000—to a local couple committed to keeping Tamara and Steve in place.
An update from The Globe Inn on Facebook expressed optimism for the future: “We’re delighted to let you know The Globe is safe, and our tenancy is secure. The new owners are local and care deeply about the pub and our community. We look forward to continuing the great atmosphere and traditions that make The Globe so special.”
Tamara reflected on the experience: “The support from our customers and neighbours has truly kept me going. This place feels like family—everyone’s friendly, and no two days are the same. I was very worried about what would happen, but meeting the new owners has lifted our spirits. They don’t intend to change anything, which is reassuring.”
With the sale now complete, The Globe Inn continues to serve the community daily and is already planning ahead for events such as Globefest 2027, the pub’s annual music festival held each May.
