Tamara Bridgeman and her fiancé Steve Griffiths, landlords of The Globe Inn in Berry Hill near Coleford, have expressed immense relief after the pub was sold at auction without their prior knowledge—but they have been allowed to stay on and continue managing the beloved local venue.
Tamara, 26, who has been connected to The Globe Inn since she was 14, starting as a pot washer, was stunned last month when an auction sign appeared outside the pub, signaling its sale without any warning. Together with Steve, 30, who has helped run the pub since December 2021, they were left devastated and uncertain about their future.
“We were given no prior notice until the auction sign arrived,” said Tamara. “It was a real shock, and we had just two and a half weeks to come to terms with it.”

Despite the unexpected news, the couple reassured patrons on the pub’s Facebook page that they were not planning to leave. The community rallied, offering support and even proposing crowdfunding efforts to help secure the pub’s future under Tamara and Steve’s management.
The auction took place on July 9, with the pub selling for £211,000—above the guide price of £179,000. Fortunately, the new owners are a local couple committed to preserving The Globe Inn’s unique charm, allowing Tamara and Steve to retain the tenancy.
A recent update on the pub’s Facebook page celebrates this positive outcome: “The Globe is safe, and our tenancy is secure. We’ve met with the new owners and feel very optimistic. They genuinely care about The Globe and our community, and we look forward to working with them to keep the pub thriving.”
Tamara shared that the steadfast support from locals throughout this period has been invaluable. “The amazing encouragement kept me going through the uncertainty. Our customers and neighbors truly make this place a family.”
Having spent 12 years at the pub, Tamara describes The Globe Inn as more than just a job—it’s her lifestyle. Now with a secure future, the couple is excited to continue offering great food, drinks, live entertainment, and community events, including planning ahead for the annual Globefest music festival in May 2027.
The Globe Inn remains open seven days a week at 40 Park Road, Berry Hill, continuing its role as a vibrant community hub.
