Redevelopment Planned for Gloucester Docks Superstore

Gloucester Docks may soon see a new superstore housed within a warehouse building that is currently considered unattractive. Jaspac Developments Ltd has submitted a planning application to the Gloucester City Council, seeking permission to repurpose the former data centre at 12 Llanthony Road into a retail space.

With consultants on board, the project aims to address the unattractive nature of the building, which is currently detracting from the charm of nearby listed structures. The vacant site, which previously housed 26 cooling units and six generators, has been unoccupied since September of last year.

The proposed plans envision the building reverting to its original ground floor retail use, creating an inviting frontage and generating increased foot traffic in the city center. Additionally, the developers assure that the new use will not result in noise disturbances for nearby residents, as it will not involve any machinery.

According to the planning documents, the proposal aims to revitalize the vacant property and contribute to the vitality and viability of the city center. It also promises to preserve and enhance the original building’s character and appearance, as well as the Southgate Street conservation area.

Interested individuals can view and provide feedback on the proposals by searching for application 25/00332/COU. The public consultation period will run until May 16, with planners expected to evaluate the proposals by June 7.
