Rare 1961 Dom Pérignon from Charles and Diana’s Wedding Expected to Fetch £70,000 at Auction

An exceptionally rare magnum of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 champagne, served at the iconic wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981, is set to be auctioned with an expected price of up to £70,000. The royal ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral, dubbed the ‘wedding of the century,’ was witnessed by an estimated 750 million viewers worldwide.

This special Vintage 1961 edition was produced in extremely limited quantities exclusively for the royal wedding festivities and select guests, making it a prized collector’s item. Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen is handling the sale, with estimates ranging between €67,000 and €80,000 (£58,870 to £70,293).

Thomas Rosendahl, Head of Wine at Bruun Rasmussen, emphasized the significance of this champagne: “Vintage 1961 stands as one of Dom Pérignon’s most coveted vintages. This bottle isn’t just a luxury wine; it’s a unique piece of cultural history linked to a landmark royal occasion. We anticipate robust international interest from discerning wine collectors and enthusiasts of royal memorabilia alike.”
