Middlesex were left frustrated by the weather in their bid for a victory over Gloucestershire on the final day of the Rothesay County Championship Division Two fixture at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol.
Pursuing a target of 362 runs, Gloucestershire struggled to 145 for 9 and seemed certain to suffer their tenth defeat in 13 red-ball games. However, persistent rain intervened, bringing an end to play with 41 overs remaining and saving Gloucestershire from defeat. Seam bowlers Toby Roland-Jones and Ryan Higgins bowled impressively, taking 4 for 30 and 3 for 35 respectively. The last-wicket pair of Matt Taylor, unbeaten on 16, and JT Langridge, 1 not out, displayed resilience by withstanding seven overs before umpires Hassan Adnan and Ben Pevarall called the players off at 4.10pm.
Earlier, Middlesex had posted 361 in their second innings, largely thanks to an enterprising 94 from 116 balls by Harry Duke. Langridge also contributed significantly by claiming three of the last four Middlesex wickets to finish with figures of 5 for 87, his second five-wicket haul in successive matches for Gloucestershire.

Middlesex, playing their final match before Sunday’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final against Leicestershire, secured 13 points from the draw. Gloucestershire, meanwhile, earned 12 points and recorded their first draw of the season.
Middlesex resumed their second innings on 298 for 6, leading by 328 runs. Duke, who had advanced steadily the previous evening, took the attack to the Gloucestershire bowlers, striking a six over long-off against Langridge. While Zafar Gohar edged one behind off a short-pitched delivery, Duke continued to press, hitting another six and several boundaries until he was caught at deep midwicket attempting to reach his second hundred in consecutive matches.
Gloucestershire’s Langridge was instrumental in restricting Middlesex, dismissing Roland-Jones and several other key batsmen. Middlesex eventually posted a competitive total before turning to aggressive bowling to challenge Gloucestershire’s chase.
Early in Gloucestershire’s pursuit, Middlesex’s seamers Higgins and Roland-Jones took quick wickets, reducing Gloucestershire to 18 for 3. James Bracey achieved a milestone by surpassing 1,000 first-class runs for the second consecutive season, but wickets continued to fall, leaving Gloucestershire struggling at 36 for 5.
A fighting partnership between Kamran Dhariwal and Daz Ahmed added 41 runs, but Gloucestershire’s innings continued to falter, reaching 77 for 6 by lunch. The partnership between Ahmed and Ed Middleton pushed the score to 111 for 6 before rain interrupted play, resulting in the loss of an hour and 20 minutes and 16 overs, with tea taken during the break.
After play resumed, Middlesex quickly regained the upper hand, taking wickets through Higgins and Roland-Jones. As the home side faltered, rain returned, halting play for the final time. With no further play possible, the umpires declared the match a draw at 5.24pm, leaving Middlesex frustrated and Gloucestershire relieved to share the points.
