Queen Camilla Reveals Furious Reaction After Teenage Train Attack

Queen Camilla opened up about a traumatic experience from her youth during a recent broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, recalling how she was “so angry” and “furious” after being attacked on a train. Speaking candidly in a discussion recorded at Clarence House last month, she described how a stranger assaulted her while she was reading a book, an incident that left her visibly shaken.

“I did fight back,” Camilla recounted. “And I remember getting off the train, and my mother looked at me and said: ‘Why is your hair standing on end?’ and: ‘Why is button missing from your coat?’” The story was originally detailed in the book Power And The Palace: The Inside Story Of The Monarchy And 10 Downing Street by Valentine Low.

The conversation, chaired by BBC broadcaster Emma Barnett and featuring former Prime Minister Baroness Theresa May, also honored the Hunt family. Camilla praised BBC racing commentator John Hunt and his daughter Amy, whose family was tragically murdered last year. Louise Hunt, 25, her sister Hannah, 28, and their mother Carol, 61, lost their lives to Louise’s ex-partner, Kyle Clifford, in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

Earlier this month, a fundraising gala launched The Hunt Family Fund, set up by John and Amy Hunt to support charities empowering young women. Camilla expressed her heartfelt admiration: “I’d just like to say, wherever your family is now, they’d be so proud of you both. And they must be from above smiling down on you and thinking, my goodness me, what a wonderful, wonderful father, husband, sister. They’d just be so proud of you both.”

Amy Hunt responded, appreciating the Queen’s openness: “Thank you for sharing that story first, Your Majesty, because that takes a lot to share these things – every woman has a story.”
