Cheltenham residents have a chance to shape the future of the former University of Gloucestershire Hardwick Campus with a public consultation on redevelopment plans. The 4.69-acre site, located on St Paul’s Road, includes four former accommodation blocks, an administration centre, and a centre for art and photography.
The property was recently sold, and developers are considering two options for its future use. One proposes a residential development featuring new homes, while the other suggests building a new care home alongside the partial reuse of existing buildings for residential and employment purposes.
To engage the local community, planning consultancy Black Box Planning will hold a public consultation event on Thursday, November 27, from 2pm to 7pm at the site. Residents and interested members of the public are encouraged to attend to view the plans and share their opinions.

Conor Flanagan from Black Box Planning emphasized the importance of community input: “This consultation marks the beginning of our engagement with the local community regarding redevelopment plans for the site. It offers an opportunity for people to influence our masterplanning and design ideas. We invite everyone to review the options—a residential scheme or a care home with mixed-use redevelopment—and provide feedback that will be carefully considered by our design team.”
The goal is to deliver a high-quality development that benefits the area, making local perspectives an essential part of the planning process.
