Dame Prue Leith, a revered figure in the culinary world and beloved Great British Bake Off judge, has shared a heartfelt update about how she is approaching life with fresh perspective in her mid-80s. At 85, she is embracing her later years with a focus on enjoying every moment alongside her husband, John Playfair.
Prue’s journey started at the prestigious Cordon Bleu Cookery School when she was just 20. From there, her career flourished—launching the renowned Leith’s restaurant in Notting Hill and becoming an influential voice in the food industry. Since joining The Great British Bake Off in 2017, she has won the hearts of viewers nationwide, stepping in as a judge after Dame Mary Berry.
Speaking candidly in Candis magazine, Prue expressed her acceptance of life’s limited time: “I can’t imagine I have all that long,” she reflected. “The great thing is to plan to have a future… but I just intend to have a good time. My resolution these days is to just have fun.” She revealed plans to take a summer holiday with her husband to celebrate life while they are both healthy and active.

Prue also discussed her absence from the recent celebrity edition of the Bake Off, explaining that the demanding filming schedule left little room for rest. “It’s mainly because these things are filmed back to back,” she said. “The whole way through the summer, so you start in April and you end at the end of August… Honestly, you get no time off. And, I’m getting a bit old and there’s places I want to go.”
Her reflections extend beyond career and time management into a beautiful tribute to her personal life. Prue cherishes her marriage to John, whom she has been with for 13 years and married to for eight. “I think I’ve been so blessed because I have had really happy marriages. John and I have been together for 13 years and married for eight. He’s good fun and makes me laugh,” she shared warmly.
With honesty, warmth, and unmistakable spirit, Dame Prue Leith reminds us all of the importance of living fully, loving deeply, and making the most of the precious time we have.
