Protest Planned at RAF Fairford with Road Closures and Police Presence

A protest is scheduled to take place at RAF Fairford tomorrow, prompting warnings of increased police presence and potential disruptions due to planned road closures. Gloucestershire Police have confirmed the demonstration will begin around midday on Saturday, April 25, starting at Fairford High Street.

Protesters will march from the town center to RAF Fairford, where a static demonstration is expected at the crash gate near the Whelford end of the runway. To ensure public safety, Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways department has arranged several road closures along the protest route.

Local residents have been advised to anticipate delays and disruptions throughout the day. While the police fully respect the right to peaceful protest, they have made it clear they will take action against any unlawful behavior during the event.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson stated: “We respect the fundamental democratic right to protest and have a long history of facilitating peaceful demonstrations. However, we must balance the right to freedom of expression and assembly with the public’s right to carry on their daily lives without undue disruption. We will not hesitate to act against anyone committing unlawful acts.”

Police officers have been in close contact with protest organisers and various local and national partners to coordinate the event. This collaboration will continue throughout and after the protest to maintain order and safety.

The protest has been organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, expressing opposition to the US-Israel military actions against Iran. RAF Fairford has been used as a base for American bomber jets, making it a focal point for the demonstration.
